Gravity works.  It doesn’t require you remember to lock your rack or wonder if it closed properly.  The aerodynamics of mounting behind your car are much better than on your roof.  Launching your skis out of the Gravi4 requires a lot of upward momentum from going over a bump paired with just the wrong amount of forward momentum. 

We could geek out with a white board to design just the right amount of speed and size of bump required to send your skis tumbling---or if you are worried add a lock or a bungee cord. 

At first glance you might think “is that gonna work?” Do you have that fear when you drop your skis in a slot on a gondola?  Probably not. Same principle, but our tubes enclose much more of your ski than any carrier on a gondola.
